Riya is a sculptor, she specialises in working with scrap metals and bronze materials. She took her academic art education from Visva-Bharati Santiniketan, located in West Bengal, India. She completed her Master’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialisation in sculpture.
The primary focus of her sculpture is grounded in the themes of Mother Earth and female urges, viewing these concepts as profoundly intertwined. Her series of sculptures are conceptually rooted in exploring female desires, exemplified through simplified female forms, the incorporation of wings, and depictions of yoga postures. In her work, she amplifies the female body's features and adorn it with wings, symbolising feminine desires for dignity, growth, power, and equality within societal contexts. She specialises in crafting distinctive and compelling sculpture forms, proficient in utilising various materials such as discarded metals, bronze, ceramic, terracotta, and carbon-based substances. One of her creations involves sculpting an exposed human brain, ingeniously fashioned from discarded exhaust pipes retrieved from a motorcycle.
She is one of the most prominent upcoming sculptor in India. She is creative in her thoughts and have the power to transform it in her own way in sculpting with different easily available materials. Her style is simple but very communicative.
